Few men’s health questions are searched as often, or answered as badly, as “how to increase penis size.” The internet is full of pills, creams and pumps that promise inches. Most of them don’t work. This guide explains what is medically possible and what is a myth, so you can make a safe decision.
What Is a Normal Penis Size?
Many men worry about size without needing to. A large study of over 15,000 men, published in BJU International, found an average erect length of about 13 cm (5.1 inches). The average flaccid length was about 9 cm.
Doctors call a penis “micropenis” only when its stretched length is far below average, usually under 7 cm in an adult. That is rare. Most men who seek help have a normal-sized penis, and the concern comes from comparison, pornography or anxiety.
Myths: What Does Not Increase Penis Size
- Pills, herbal capsules and “male enhancement” supplements: No credible clinical evidence shows they enlarge the penis, and some contain undisclosed drugs.
- Creams and oils: These may only cause skin irritation.
- Vacuum pumps: They cause temporary swelling, not permanent growth. Overuse can damage tissue.
- Weights and extreme “jelqing”: These risk injury, scarring and erection problems.
If a product promises guaranteed inches, avoid it.
Lifestyle Steps That Support Penile Health
These steps won’t make the penis biologically larger. They can improve erection strength and how the penis looks and performs.
- Lose excess weight. Fat around the pubic area can bury part of the shaft, so weight loss may reveal hidden length.
- Exercise regularly. Good blood flow is essential for firm erections.
- Strengthen your pelvic floor. Guided pelvic floor exercises improve erection quality and ejaculatory control. See our Pelvic Floor Rehabilitation programme.
- Quit smoking and limit alcohol. Both damage the blood vessels that supply the penis.
- Sleep well and manage stress. Poor sleep and anxiety can lower testosterone and sexual confidence.

Medical Options for Penis Enlargement
If size is a real concern after a proper evaluation, an andrologist may discuss the following options.
1. HA (Hyaluronic Acid) Fillers
Filler is injected into the glans (head) of the penis to add volume and girth. It is minimally invasive, but results are temporary and it is not suitable for everyone. Learn more about PE Treatment with HA Fillers.
2. P-Shot (PRP Therapy)
The P-Shot uses your own platelet-rich plasma to improve blood supply and erection quality. It is mainly a treatment for erectile function rather than a proven size increaser, and any change in size is not guaranteed. See P Shot for Penile Enhancement and Penile Rejuvenation.
3. Surgical Enlargement
Procedures that release the suspensory ligament or add girth can change appearance, especially the flaccid length. They carry risks such as scarring, altered sensation and erectile problems, so they should be considered only after specialist counselling. Read about Penis Enlargements at IASH.
Is Penis Enlargement Right for You?
A good andrologist will first check whether your size is actually below average, whether you have a treatable condition such as erectile dysfunction, and whether anxiety is driving the concern. Sometimes the real problem is Erectile Dysfunction or Premature Ejaculation, and treating it improves satisfaction far more than added length would.
When to See a Doctor
Book a consultation if you notice:
- A penis size that is far below average, or a sudden change in size or shape
- Curvature, pain or plaques on the shaft
- Weak erections or difficulty maintaining them
- Persistent anxiety about your size affecting your relationships
Frequently Asked Questions
Can penis size be increased naturally?
Not in the sense of true growth. Weight loss, fitness and pelvic floor training can improve appearance and erection quality, but no natural method permanently lengthens the penis.
Are penis enlargement pills safe?
Most are unregulated and unproven. Some may interact with medicines or contain hidden ingredients. Speak to a doctor first.
Do fillers or surgery give permanent results?
Fillers are temporary. Surgical results last longer but carry higher risks. Both need an in-person assessment.
Is treatment private?
At IASH, patient privacy is a priority, and online consultations are available.
